ORIGINS

The alpaca is a South American Camelid which has been domesticated over the past 6,000 years. It is believed that it was developed from cross breeding the vicuna with a wild llama like creature the guanaco, both of which are protected wild species today.

The Llama is larger than the alpaca and has been bred for carrying goods. The alpaca is smaller has been bred purely for its fleece.
