Britsh Alpaca LTD.
Unfortunately the company known as British Alpaca has been unable to gain sufficient support from members of the alpaca community to continue trading, and therefore has mothballed its activities. British Alpaca Cooperative continues to stimulate interest in future initiatives and protect the intellectual property.
British Alpaca is a mechanism through which Alpaca fleece can be processed into a profitable finished product.
British Alpaca consists of two limited companies:
The British Alpaca Fibre Co-operative Ltd
-
British Alpaca Limited
The long-established British Alpaca Fibre Co-operative is a non-profit making institution that acts as a club through which members can buy shares in its trading subsidiary British Alpaca Ltd.
British Alpaca Ltd is the relatively recently established trading company, wholly owned by the British Alpaca Fibre Co-operative Ltd. All its profits are distributed back to the shareholders. Both companies share the same Board of Directors. British Alpaca has recently been re-structured to include a full time Managing Director and a fully serviced office. With these two new elements, we feel that British Alpaca is ready to successfully launch itself into the fine fibre market.
This is an association of fibre growers united in the specific aim of collecting, grading, and processing the national clip with a view to manufacturing and retailing British Alpaca Fibre products, providing a direct link from grower to customer.
The Cooperative organizes the collection and grading of the members fleeces, sets the price of the fleece and works through the British Alpaca Fine Fibre Company (BAFFCO) to develop the fleeces into products which are sold in numerous outlets to the general public.
It is hoped that when eventually the retailing of these products create profit, this added value will be returned to the growers pro-rata depending on the amount of fleece donated.
The sole aim of the Coop is to promote the growers interests. Via BAFFCO it is hoped to control the quality of British Alpaca in a through line from the grower to the customer, in the process nurturing a reputation for exclusive highest quality product.
It is worth bearing in mind that the whole alpaca clip from the national herd would hardly keep a large commercial mill busy for longer than a few days. As an industry there is a long way to go in developing British alpaca. Through pooling our resources and co-operation we will eventually succeed.
The Cooperative is vital to the future of the industry. Without a vibrant market for top quality British alpaca products we are all merely producing expensive elegant fluffy pets.
