Rob & Shirl in Ireland
We have now returned form our trip to Ireland, which apart from a brief visit a couple of years ago to deliver alpacas I had never really visited. What beautiful country and when the rain stays off as it did when we were there it is stunning. We took the fuel efficient 'noddymobile ' with us and travelled the length and breadth of Ireland exploring all its nooks and crannies and mostly on half a pint of petrol per day!
The Tullamore Show was a real treat as its a truly traditional agricultural show the like of which we probably haven't seen in the UK for a number of years, where the public can get real close to farmers and animals and much chat is had by all. I would like to thank the organisers Richard Langford, his girlfriend Denise and Mary Murphy, for the invite and the hours of work they put in to make this show a success.
Also credit must go to the Irish Alpaca breeders who travelled from all over Ireland to attend. I thank them for their good humour and enthusiasm which all helped to make the day a great success. Shirley was invaluable acting as an additional fleece steward alongside Denise and doing some sterling work on the microphone keeping the crowds entertained all morning whilst I judged the fleeces and all afternoon, in the sweltering heat, whilst I judged the alpacas.
The alpacas were at Tullamore for the first time, the alpacas were of a very good standard they made quite a splash with the crowds, many of which had never seen them before. I'm sure between us all we acheived a great deal to encourage alpaca sales in Ireland over the next year and have ensured that the alpacas will become a permanent and popular feature at Tullamore in years to come.
Thanks again to all who attended and worked to make the show a success and I wish you and your alpacas all the best for the years ahead.
