Toft Alpaca Pets, guardians, geldings, non breeders, wethers now up for sale
Shearing is done, fleeces have been assessed and the successes and failures of the 2009 season have been discussed and deliberated upon. That hard time for the males arrived this week when we selected those that will go through to the second year of assessment and those that will join the non breeders in the pet paddock.
The amazing thing this season is that out of 38 weaners here on farm 36 of them made first and second grade on the sorting table for processing indicating that our breeding is paying dividends accross the herd with the standard rising across the board each season. But we cannot keep them all and it amazes us here that we are now castrating alpacas that we would have been overjoyed to breed with only three short years ago. They are now destined for other duties as Guards, Pets & Companions and probably by the end of this season all of them will have been sold and found new homes.
Those males selected to make people very happy as alpaca pets, guard animals and companions are now up on the sales pages of the website seeking pastures new. If you wnat the pleasure without the progeny- check it out on the Pets page.
