ALPACA INTRODUCTORY DAY FOR EUROPE

6/30/2010 12:00:00 AM

Great day out with 12 Students from Holland

We had a real treat on farm here yesterday when we played host to 12 students from an agricultural college in Holland. However reluctant some of these students might have been to come along, they beleived they were signed up to stand in a shed and be talked at, they were reluctant to leave by the end of the day. Shirley and I laid on our normal introductory day and the fact that these students, all of whom were under 20, were able to understand the finer points of alpaca husbandry was truly remarkable. They even got the jokes and we were truly impressed by the end of the day how much they had taken on board.. All this in a foreign language and laughs along the way? What's not to enjoy?

We took then through the whole Toft alpaca introductory day and they joined in and did the lot, toe nails, feeding, vaccination, bottle feeding, halter training, walking and an awful lot of talking. They left with their phones packed with photographs and some very memorable alpaca moments whcih will no doubt trickle their way onto facebook or myspace or whatever in the near future.

Shirley and I which all the students well in their future careers and hope that their trip has kindled an interest in them working with alapacas in their future careers. We would like to thank these young people and their tutors for their visit and a great dayon the farm. We look forward to repeating the experience in the future when they feel the need to make a trip to Toft to talk all things alpaca.
